[LOTD] All About Dinners

I recently brought my hubby to Ku De Ta for his birthday celebration. In view of the fact it was definitely an occasion to dress up for, I decided to sex it up to be a wee bit more glamorous than I usually do.

Little Black Dress with a brown belt (a definite must have) from Bysi

Black patent wedges from New Look

Silver Clutch from Dorothy Perkins

The next night, we were invited to attend a friend’s wedding dinner. Since I should definitely not upstage the bride, I decided to opt for a more urban chic, ala Black Widow kinda look.

I was at a staycation so I didn’t have the chance to accessorize as much as I would prefer to. In fact, I wore the same wedges and brought the same clutch (the horrors I know!).

Midnight blue jumper with chain belt accessory from Bugis Street (bought at a steal too!)

Both looks, both dark tones, but different styles. What do you think? 🙂

[Review] Revlon Photoready Airbrush Mousse Make Up and Perfecting Primer

I am always on the look out for the perfect foundation to create a flawless visage. Since I tried BB Cream, 2-way foundation cake, and liquid foundation, I thought a mousse foundation would be worth a shot.

Saw this product on the shelves of Watson’s son I decided to give it a try.

This is how the product’s texture looks like. The primer is relatively light, compared to my regular primer from L’oreal Studio Smooth Resurfacing Primer.

The mousse is a little more watery that I expected, since I am used to the texture of liquid foundation. I’m using Nude for my skin tone.

This is half my face with the primer and mousse. Sorry for the harsh lighting as I used flash for clearer picture quality at night.

This is my morning make up with the mousse foundation & primer. It was easy to glide and coverage was comparable to liquid foundation. I could skip concealer for my acne scars but not for the dark circles. 😦

This is 4 hours after make up without any touch up. Still looks relatively matte and sebum free. Yay!

Verdict at the end of 12 hours: I needed to touch up with my K-palette powder about 6 hours into the day. Otherwise, I found that the foundation was able to deliver the job of providing adequate coverage without the cakiness of 2-way foundation and weight of liquid foundation. However, my main grouse with this product is that I always end up squeezing too much mousse at one go. Not sure if it’s me or the nozzle. Also, on its own without the primer, it doesn’t last more than 2-3 hours. So, if you are looking at the possibility of buying this product, you would definitely need the primer with the mousse foundation.

[Review] Aromatica Rose Absolute First Serum

One of the items in the April Glamabox is this serum from Korea, the Aromotica Rose absolute first serum.
i was quite excited to try it as this pdt mixes the philosophy of aromatheraphy and organic plants into this serum.

“Beautify your skin with the gentle touch of nature. This luxurious organic Aromatica Rose Absolute First Serum is enriched with Rose Oil, Aloe Vera, Arbutin and Swiss Alpine extracts. It can event out your skin tone, reduce pigmentations, leaving your skin soft, moisturized and smooth like silk. Its anti-aging & whitening efficacy are approved & recognized by Korea KFDA organization.”

Apply 3-4 drops of serum on palm after cleansing procedures. Apply on face & neck with light patting motion, avoid eye areas. For pigmented areas, repeat application for better results. Apply Rose Absolute Vital Fluid or Cream afterwards. Use day and night daily.

This is how i use it… its actually hard to dispense as the opening in quite big and i end up pouring too much. so had to pour back some from my palm on a few occasions.
it looks and feels as viscous as oil but its not oily at all.

i’ll rub my palms together quickly just once to spread out the serum before patting on my face. when patting, ican really feel the stickiness btw my face and my palm. initially i cant get used to this stickiness and slightly turn off. but after several minutes the skin feels smooth again 🙂

this is suppose to be a lightening and anti pigmentation pdt. i dont have much pigments, but since i have ran out of my Missha Whitening Serum i am using this until i get my new one again.
i love the rose smell of this and it really helps to soothes my mind and mood.
this helps to moisturize my skin at night and i wake up to smooth non greasy skin.

I dont know where to get this in Singapore but you can get it from online glamashop here.

[Review] L’Oreal Instant Radiance Facial Whitening Mask

i have been overwhelmed lately at work so Quick review!

This mask is smthg new to me as I do not recall this series being advertised. but yay i love trying new products!

Chinese test for me (translation):
l’oreal paris first whitening mask contain ‘Melanin-block’ and vitamin C, quickly and deeply absorbed into the skin.
After use, skin will instantly reveal radiance and glowy transparent skin.

Can be placed on skin directly after wash, avoid eye area.

this must be a PRC mask cos its in simplified chinese. HAHA.

Review: the mask sheet is really wide and needs some adjusting to cover my face properly. the cotton sheet mask is really soft.
as usual, i think i accidentally wore it to zzz and peel it off in the middle of the night.

the next day, i dont feel much diff in terms of fairness and i dont expect any anyway since its just 1 mask. radiance wise.. i let you judge. dont see much diff also. the photo was taken facing the morning sun.

[Review] Dior Lip Glow Color Reviver Balm SPF 10

One of the must-have items in a girl’s bag is a lipbalm. Today I’ll be sharing with you my HG lipbalm and I’ve lost count how many tubes I’ve used over the years. I’m very particular about something I use a few times a day. It can’t smell bad, taste weird, feel sticky, too dry or be difficult to apply (steer clear from those that need to use ur finger).

Awaken and enhance the natural beauty of your lips with this unique balm that promises the perfect pout. Formulated with color reviver technology, this silky lipstick reacts with the chemistry of your lips to create a special shade that will last all day. The addition of SPF 10 will keep you protected, while hydrating mango butter and loofah extract nourish for beautiful, luscious lips.

Let’s see how my lips look before and after application.
20120525-214102.jpg 20120525-214116.jpg

Can you see my lips are now more pink? Not everyone will have the same hue of pink as this lipbalm will enhance your natural lip color. For me, one layer gives a natural glow and if I want a richer deeper color, I will layer it and it will still look natural. I also like that it has a lip gloss effect without feeling like one (sticky). Now, we have sunscreen for our faces why not on our lips as well. NO ONE likes darken lips and with the SPF 10 I feel my lips are protected.

Before I started using this, my lips were chapped and peeled a lot. Applying this regular really helped to improve my lip texture and color.  Now my lips hardly peel and remain moisturised on days I forget to take it with me. So it is not just a regular lipbalm but a lip treatment as well.

The downside to this is that it’s really expensive. A tube cost USD 30 / SGD 44 and can only last me ~2 months with 2-3 times application a day. For me, I think it makes a great gift cos not everyone would spend $$$ on a lipbalm but definitely wouldn’t mind receiving it.

[Review] Missha Flower Bouquet Cleansing Cream (Cherry Blossom)

remember this came in the mail a few months back? i have decided to switch from cleansing oil to cleansing cream, partly because i want to try smthg new to see what i have been missing out on the last few years, and who knows it could be better for my skin too. i’ve been using cleansing oil for the past few years as my make up remover cos it is the SIMPLEST and MOST EFFECTIVE WAY to remove make up. every damn tract and particle comes off in 1 swipe and so delicate that i use it on my under eyeliner and dont feel anything.

the cream is really thick and soft, like those baby johnson’s moisturiser. the scent is really strong in my opinion, i would prefer it if it is more subtle.

with flast

without flash

time for my stress test: using concealer as a base and all sorts of make up over it. let it dry for 5 min.

takes alot of rubbing to remove the stubborn eyeliners and mascara as compared to cleansing oil. in fact i had to rub for 1 min or so which is too long for my std.
with cleansing oil maybe 20 seconds.

after that, i proceed with my Avene Cleansing gel and towel pat dry.

results: clean bare skin

i’ve used this for a few weeks, i find it hard to rinse off the cream, especially on the sides of the nose and ard the eyes where the contours are more ‘hollow’. i have to use more water to rinse cum rub the cream of these area.
the cleansing power is definitely not as good as cleansing oil.

what disappoints me about this is that i cannot wash my eye make up properly esp mascara eyeliner as this stings my eyes when i massage near them.. 😦 so i am using normal cleanser as my eye make up remover.

other than that, it is a decent pdt to have, and it certainly didnt cause any milla seeds which is why i change to a cleansing cream. so that part is pretty impressive..!!

i have not decided if i want to continue with this.

[LOTD] Romantic Dinner Date

It’s spring and flower power is back in full force. Have you caught the fever yet?

Peonies are an absolute favorite of mine. What’s yours?

H&M dress, ALDO platform heels

The length is perfect for me, hitting just above my knee. The loose fit is great if you want to be comfortable while the satin finish gives the dress a touch of elegance.

Look classy from the front and cute from the back with this centered bow just above the keyhole. No zips to fuss around with and being lined gets my vote!

Stepping out in my neutral AND flattering sky high heels for a night of romance.

Btw, this outfit was taken at my sis’s wedding banquet @ night so it wasn’t exactly a date, but hey! it was definitely romantic 🙂 AND there were candles too.

[Review] Aqua Korean Hair Salon

I recently permed my hair at Aqua Korean Hair Salon at the recommendation of Syd, my fellow contributor.

This is how I looked after the first round of perming (Will explain why I went through two rounds of perming).

I opted for the Natural curls look inspired by this particular hairstyle.

My decision to perm my hair had to do with my upcoming wedding photo shoot. My completely resistant hair would be a nightmare to work with so I thought some texture would be great.

I took the Korean stylist, Emily. Our serious communication problem was the language barrier. Despite having taken Korean lessons at 19, I cannot hold a decent conversation with her. It was a lot of smiles and sheepish looks from both of us.

Service level at Aqua was great – drinks, snacks and the constant making sure I was comfortable.

Emily was evidently skilled, but she could be a little less rough while washing my hair. However, she gives a killer head massage. Yay to that!

However, the next day, my resistant hair decided to do a diva stunt on me and ended up looking like this.

Not balanced eh? It looked limp and lifeless as well. Was rather miffed but was able to arrange to get my hair fixed at Aqua the next day at no extra charge. I was pretty impressed by the goodwill gesture.

On my way to Aqua. My mom was like “the curls are never going to last till June!”

So, I headed to Aqua again. This time, Emily did a Korean perm for me to make my curls more obvious. image

Feel like an alien onboard the mothership.

Can you see the bowl on my shoulders? Was pretty intrigued by that.

The end result of two perms in 3 days will be revealed in the next LOTD post. But I’m pretty happy with how I look now, that’s for sure.

Go try Aqua if you think that you would wanna try out Korean hairstyling. It’s really different compared to what I normally experience, in terms of techniques. My colleagues said I really look very Korean-y now which is a definite morale booster.

Prices are reasonable for an Orchard Road salon – I paid about SGD$220 for the perm and treatment. When I permed my hair at a rather well-known chain best known for its celebrity owners, I paid nearly $400. Do not expect an opulent and luxurious interior. It’s comfortable and cosy, but the stylists Sophia (who is so pretty! Porcelain skin anyone?) and Emily (I don’t think it was her faux pas. My hair is that resistant.) are really worth a try.

I am planning to do another hair makeover after my wedding. Definitely will go back to Aqua for that.

Check out Aqua’s Facebook page for more information.

This is not an advertorial, just sharing my experience at this particular place.

[Review] Soap & Glory Flake Away

I Love a good scrub and always prefer to DIY instead of going to the spa. Somehow it doesn’t feel as clean and they don’t usually reach all the places as thoroughly as I would like.

A superhero strength skin smoothing body polish with shea butter, sweet almond oil, peach seed powder, sea salt and sugar. Transforms your scaly legs from reptilian to radiant. Scented with our Original Pink™ fragrance combines fresh bergamot and mandarin, rose, jasmine, peach, strawberry, oakmoss, amber, woody notes and amber and warm vanilla notes on the bottom.

This is a serious body scrub, not one of these “i can hardly feel it, gentle” type scrubs. Looking at the exfoliating beads, you cant really tell but it has a thick rough texture which might be too harsh for some skin but i love this. But I find it especially good for elbows and heels cos most scrubs aren’t rough enough to slough away the dead skin. Another thing about the texture is that it’s easy to slap on and it sticks to your skin such that u don’t have to worry about it sliding off your legs when it’s wet.

My skin feels soft with a nice light layer of oil so u can choose to skip applying your body lotion. I have use it sparingly and only reach for more product from the tub when the beads have dissolved on my body. Otherwise, it becomes difficult to wash off and may feel overly greasy cos of the oil so use it sparingly. Skin feels moisturized but not oily after rinse.

It also has the lovely scent of Miss Dior Cherie. It’s pretty strong and can last at least half a day fr me and on those days I’ll skip my perfume.

This is my 3rd tub btw ;p

[LOTD] Friday @ work

Fridays tend to be a lil more dress down at my workplace. We also have jeans fridays and i think its a great idea to implement that.

when im not in jeans on fridays, i will be in a smart casual dress.

Cobalt blue tweet jacket from H&M

its really snug and warm, perfect for my chilly office

button up look over a simple yellow dress from m)phosis (support local brands!!)

yellow has always been my favourite colour since i was a kid, and pink joined in when i was older.
there’s smthg about yellow that always brightens up my day. friends have commented that yellow flatters me too 😀 😀
and blue-yellow has been one of my fave combinations
unhooking the buttons to reveal the details of the yellow dress…
