LOTD – Tweed is the New Chic Cheap

One of my all time favourite fabrics is tweed. There is something in the richness of the texture that invokes images of all things British and scholarly chic. In fact, I find tweed so classic it is probably an eternal love affair.

When I was in London in December, I pounced on the opportunity to visit my Shrine of Fashion – Primark. I know many critics find Primark too mass-produced or with poor quality clothes. I remember fondly how I bought tons of things from Primark in Northern Ireland and they lasted pretty well.

So today, I am going to feature fashion that can be cheap but look chic. Of course, to achieve the perfect juxtaposition, I had to choose one of Singapore’s most chic landmarks, Singapore Art Museum.

Yellow tweed dress with black faux leather Peter Pan collar, Primark UK

Black ballet flats with butterfly accessory, DMK

Black satchel, Charles and Keith

The shoes are way comfortable and perfect for a day of walking through the galleries featuring Asian artwork. The satchel is roomy enough to put the essentials but for me, it was a struggle to keep myself from packing my usual load of stuff.

It was truly a day when chic met cheap.  Proof that we can all indeed aspire to be a diva on a dime, to quote the Canadian fashion show title that used to air in Singapore.

Lookbook – My Chinese New Year Looks of 2013

My apologies for being so tardy with posts. I believe my fellow contributors have been instrumental in keeping this blog alive.

Now that we have gone international (*waves hi to foreign friends*), I thought I’ll share a bit of our culture as Chinese in Singapore celebrating a key event unique to our heritage.

Chinese New Year is an annual celebratory affair spanning across 15 days, where people would visit their family, loved ones and friends decked in their new clothes with Mandarin oranges and well-wishes. Auspicious sayings will be exchanged and people usually indulge in plenty of good food in the festive period.

This year was my first year celebrating CNY as a married person and yes, as part of tradition, I have to dish out angpaos (red packets with varying denominations of money) to the younger generation. That’s my new identity now as a missus.

Day 1 – Visiting with my new family

Pale yellow sequinned top. Love and Bravery,

My ubiquitous view from the top.

The look was created to deviate from my usual pretty dress look. Instead, I wanted to look pretty even in pants and I love how this pair of pants is a fashion statement on its own.

Day 2: Going to The Temple for Prayers

Another first this year – my mother in law brought us all to the temple to pray for good luck in the new year and I took the chance to dress up and take photos in one of Singapore’s oldest and historically significant temple, Thian Hock Keng.

Lace Chinois dress, Intoxiquette

Satchel, Charles and Keith

Nude peeptoe heels, DMK

I must say I absolutely adore my peeptoe heels from DMK. This is like my best buy ever. It’s the correct shade of nude (we all know nude is subjective – your nude is not my nude #ifyouknowwhatimean) and at $29.90, it’s a travesty not to get it.

Day 3/4 – Visiting River Angpao for the first time

This is indeed a year of many firsts and it’s also my first time going to a carnival I’ve always read about in Chinese textbooks but never gotten the chance to go. You see, my family likes to spend CNY away from the crowd while my hubby’s family likes to soak up the festive atmosphere.

Very colourful floats and displays and super huge variety of food. The city skyline looks amazingly festive!

I do apologise for the tiny and not-so-stellar photos. My phone crashed so I have to make do with FB and Instagram pictures.

More from me coming up 🙂

LOTD – Oriental Chic

Was out for tea with my fellow contributors quite some time ago and decided to dress up in a somewhat different manner.

Syd mentioned I was pretty experimental in my sartorial choices and I have to agree. Until I hit the dreaded 30s, I would continue to play around with my fashion styles.

Here’s my look of the day.

Kimono wrap dress – H&M Conscious Collection

Suede caged heels – BATA

Black ceramic watch – Skagen (previously featured)

Floral hair tie – Helen

Was also dressed for my sister-in-law’s 21st birthday party so the outfit served dual purpose. I loved the drapes of the dress, how it is modest yet it exudes a classiness and stands out on its own. It needs minimal accessories and a loose bun serves to make the outfit more polished.

Here’s a cuppa to a new year ahead! Cheers!

[LOTD] (Not so) Little Black Dress

It’s rainy season here in Singapore and what better way to spend the day than in a cafe enjoying a cuppa hot tea or coffee.

Love & Bravery black midi, Necklace borrowed frm Marie, Aldo slippers, Accessorize rose earrings, Owl ring (gift)

I love the stretchy cotton material of this midi dress. Ok, on me it’s an almost maxi since I’ve not taken up the hem. The sleeves also tend to slip off my shoulders from time to time.

Should have worn a strapless cos the straps kept showing. I chose to wear my hair up with this cos I wanted to show off the back 😉

THanks Marie! For capturing this candid shot…can see my dimples along with all the lines on my face! hahaa

This is an in between length for me…hahaha. But seriously comfy and perfect for long flights 🙂

Sunset Wedding @ 1-Altitude

Hey everyone, I was at Stellar @ 1-Altitude last weekend celebrating the union of Eileen & Alvin.

I love how they wrote their own vows cause it’s that much more personal. Words are a powerful thing. What you say to others and how you say them has an impact more than you could ever know. It was an emotional episode as the bride read hers our loud while choking back tears of joy. Even I got a lil teary-eyed. Words, gestures, actions . . . All very powerful.

It’s kinda like being at the top of the world and declaring your love for one another during one of the most romantic moments of the day – sunset

Of cos the bride was lovely in white+lace

Topshop dress, Vintage belt & necklace, Triselle stud earrings, Steve Madden clutch

Instead of classic black (or white), I though the vibrant green would be more cheerful and suitable for the occasion. Not to mention green looks extra gorgeous during sunset 😉

A lovely view of Singapore city skyline

[LOTD] Romantic Dinner Date

It’s spring and flower power is back in full force. Have you caught the fever yet?

Peonies are an absolute favorite of mine. What’s yours?

H&M dress, ALDO platform heels

The length is perfect for me, hitting just above my knee. The loose fit is great if you want to be comfortable while the satin finish gives the dress a touch of elegance.

Look classy from the front and cute from the back with this centered bow just above the keyhole. No zips to fuss around with and being lined gets my vote!

Stepping out in my neutral AND flattering sky high heels for a night of romance.

Btw, this outfit was taken at my sis’s wedding banquet @ night so it wasn’t exactly a date, but hey! it was definitely romantic 🙂 AND there were candles too.

[LOTD] Bridesmaid in Purple

Hello everyone! It was my sister’s wedding and the bridesmaid were decked out in passionate purple 🙂

Triselle toga dress, Pedder Red shoes

No accessories except for the corsage. Focus of the day was my sister, not me. Besides I woke up way too early to really doll myself up. Had to prepare for the morning gatecrash!

The sleeves were fun and the ruched details of the dress makes it more flattering. Added this pic cos I like the way my hair looks here.

Hope you are enjoying your weekend with lots of love ❤
